rockerThe Renewal Fund continued to grow over the festive season – which is remarkable in these straitened times, and much appreciated. The Christmas Coffee Morning organised by ‘The Geordie Girls’ (Jean Bainbridge and Anthea Aldous) and friends added £187, and boosted the ‘Spot The Shuttlecock’ amount (see P3). The Evening Gazette Wish Campaign added a further £142 when it came to their final shareout. Very many thanks to all those who clipped out and glued in the tokens last year. soldier38246 Private John Shaw of Liverton Mill was killed in action on May 4th 1917, whilst fighting for the British Expeditionary Force in France. The Great-uncle of Hilda Brown, he was described as ‘a miller and farmer’, and was serving with 6th Battalion of The Yorkshire Regiment. Hand-written letters from his platoon and company commanders give tribute to his bravery and cheerfulness, and his soldierly qualities.

pizzaMost recently, the Italian Pizza Night at Wren’s Nest was a great success, with Moorsholm’s very own outdoor wood-fired pizza oven enticing many hardy folk to sit out on a damp and windy night, eating fresh Italian food.

surveyYou may have noticed a couple of weeks ago there were 2 surveyors working at the Hall. They were taking exact measurements of the site so that the architect Geoff Stephenson can start to prepare his detailed drawings to get planning permission. It’s a small step, but a step nevertheless.

What a magnificent event – and what a boost for the Renewal Fund. The Leap Year Hog Roast raised a staggering £1300 (but nobody proposed!)

Where do you start to say thanks? The fact that all 120 tickets were sold, and the Hall was packed (both for the food, and the pre-meal Bingo) shows how important the Memorial Hall is to the Moorsholm community and the surrounding area.  Click here to read issue 4 (PDF)

We enter 2008 with nearly £4,800 in the Renewal Fund – a fine way to start the New Year, although there is obviously still a very long way to go before work can start on renewing the Memorial Hall. Click Here to Read Issue 3 (PDF)

This is the second issue of our progress report on fund-raising efforts for the Hall Renewal Fund. Thanks to everyone who entered our ‘Spot The Shuttlecock’ competition – the winners were Anne & John Wood who guessed the spot almost exactly, and who donated their prize back to the Fund. Thanks to you both. Click Here to read issue 2 (PDF)
